AP began recruiting graduate students to volunteer with partner organizations in 2003. In the years since, the program has evolved into the cornerstone of our mission, and is central to our model of support for community-based advocacy. Over 100 Fellows have served under the program in the past five years. Another 44 Fellows volunteered this summer with 37 organizations in 27 countries.
AP views Fellows as ambassadors for peace. Most will serve for three months in the field, and provide valuable support for their hosts. This year, they will profile the work of their hosts. Next year’s Fellows will build on this foundation by helping the organization to develop their own information tools (websites, newsletters) and produce their own information. In time, experience has shown that this will produce social change.
